Your Stalkers Diary. September 2005.

Well, what a rut we have had in Somerset!! First a false start with limited activity then off with a Bang!

After many years of calling bucks with limited success, this year I got it correct and as those of you who came out with me will testify, what fun we had. We called in over 40 bucks of which 11 were shootable and collected. When stalking with Alex in open pine stands, we had three bucks come in all at the same time.

It was quite comical as there ensued a fantastic scrap which ended up with us watching rather than shooting. Later that morning, after breakfast, we returned to the woods and were rewarded with a good cull buck which came in at warp speed on the first call. The last couple of weeks has been quiet with few bookings however I have been out solo and I am on target for my cull plans.

A phoned report of a car hit the other day gave me a chance to use my springers to follow up. Afler a two mile point I was rewarded with a doe which was dead. After a prelonged search I found her young from this season. It saddened me to have to shoot them but I know they would not have survived the coming winter without Mum.

Well done to Barry and Ivan who both turned in CIC Silver bucks at 127.6 and 117.68 points.

Only a short time left until the end of this Buck season so the pressure is on to reach the targets.

Good stalking

Pete.
