Your Stalkers Diary. October 2005.
It's always hard to get motivated towards the end of the buck season. Visitors to the stalking grounds are usually few and far between. Having said that, I still have to reach my cull plan targets and the end of this season has produced some of the best ever stalking sessions.
Bucks are always hard to find but very rewarding when you do. The colours are fantastic as the leaves change and the deer in their new coats blend in so well. The Canada Geese are flighting every morning at first light. I see the early sun shine under their wings as I feed the pheasants. Ground conditions are still good but a bit more rain will stop me driving on the fields.
I have seen so many does this year and most with only one young, however I have one set of triplets and the doe seems to be doing them well. With the doe season soon upon us the phone has been busy with stalkers who I look forward to greeting in the next few weeks.
I have just returned from a safari in Botswana, my first trip to Africa. What an experience!!!. I chose to use a good camera and shot loads. A false charge by a male lion and a committed attack by a female elephant has convinced me that stalking in England was a whole lot safer. I also considered myself to be a good tracker, however compared to my guide and his tracker I am only just out of kindergarten. I did overhear them talking and I take as a complement "The old man has eyes!!!" but I am not so sure about the old.
Good stalking
Pete.
