Your Stalkers Diary. June 2005.
Now all of a sudden the undergrowth is getting really thick. However the stalking has been good with some great photos and some fine shots.
Bucks have been hiding but does and young have been very evident. Early starts of 4am have not been a great success but a change of time to an 8am start gave instant results with bucks been found in the mowing grass and also moving in the woods.
I have found that there seem to be fewer twin calves this season, but time on the ground will confirm this later in the year.
We were lucky to witness two mature bucks having a good scrap. Stalking into 100m with a stalking client I was able to catch the action on my camera. So enchanting was this confrontation that the taking of a trophy went out of the window.
Stalking Tips;
Do not leave your bins at the scene of a grallock. It could mean a 40 mile trip to collect them.!
If you find an area of heavy fraying, sit down, wait 20 mins, then scratch the ground with your stick and shake a bush. The chances are that the buck will come to investigate.
When your German client says "I shoot ze buck now" say "No!!!" especially when the Buck was beside the flag on the 17th green of a golf course!
Good Stalking, happy hunting.
Pete.
