Your Stalkers Diary. December 2005.
Well with the weather as it is today any self respecting roe doe is well tucked up, so I am looking forward to more of the cold crisp days we had here last week.
Stalking has been good todate and all our recent guests have had successes on the hill. No two days seem to be the same with one day the ground cracking with frost the next lashing with rain. A far off memory was my recent trip on safari to Botswana, I would welcome the heat again!
Stalking has taken second place to other business commitments but trips to the hill to put out salt and feed blocks have made spotting sign easy. I never shoot near these areas as a matter of principle but observation of tracks gives a good idea of what the area is holding.
The apple crops are still being harvested and I hope I will soon be able to get into the orchards. Deer are using them at night but leave before first light as the workers arrive. I lamped them the other night and counted 20 plus in about 70 acres. I bet the venison will be pre- marinaded!.
I include a few phots of my recent trip. I find that it cheers me up to think of those close encounters when I am wet and cold.
Wishing all my stalking friends a very happy Christmas with lots of gifts of stalking kit on Xmas Day.
Bookings for Dec are full but I have a few dates available in Jan with either David, Paul or myself.
Have a good one
Pete.
